Collection and disposal of airbags

Let Interzero organise the collection and disposal of airbags from your service centre, garage or authorised service centre network. We provide a comprehensive range of services, including verification and acceptance faulty components, safe transport a vehicle fitted out for the carriage of waste and the handover of faulty airbags for deactivation and professional disposal.

We serve individual garages, vehicle dismantling centres, nationwide service networks and car manufacturers working with local authorised service centres. We tailor the scope of our services to our customers’ needs and the volume of waste they generate. On request We can also carry out a detailed inspection of the airbags we receive, coordinate collections from numerous locations across Poland, and report the quantities and VIN numbers of the airbags to our customers sent for disposal.

As part of a single service, we collect both deactivated airbags and modules containing active pyrotechnic components. The organisation of the transport of this waste always takes into account the requirements for the transport of pyrotechnic components set out in the ADR agreement. We determine the details of the packaging and securing of the modules prior to collection, based on information about the consignment being handed over.

Airbags –: waste code and classification in BDO

We accept airbags from:

  • maintenance campaigns,
  • repairs under warranty and after the warranty period,
  • vehicle dismantling,
  • post-accident repairs,
  • rejects and defective production batches.

Before collecting defective airbags, the waste transfer company is required to issue a waste transfer note (KPO) via the BDO system, which must include, amongst other things, details of the type (code) and weight of the airbags intended for disposal.

Unactivated airbags are classified as hazardous waste and fall under code 16 01 10* – explosive components (e.g. airbags). Such components contain active pyrotechnic charges and therefore require compliance with specific rules regarding storage, safe transport in accordance with the ADR Agreement, and deactivation under controlled conditions.

Correct classification of deployed airbags (e.g. those used in accidents) requires taking into account their actual condition and composition. If you are unsure which code to use to classify the waste, ask the consultant handling your declaration for assistance.

Terms and conditions for the collection and pricing of airbag disposal

We collect faulty airbags from garages, service centres and dismantling facilities located throughout Poland. We provide this service at a minimum order quantity of 10 items. We quote for each enquiry on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the type, number and condition of the modules, the location of the collection point, and any specific requirements regarding transport and processing. For multi-branch service networks, we also agree on the scope of coordination and reporting for the process.

At the client’s request, we also take on tasks relating to BDO administration (issuing KPO forms, creating entries in the KEO) and implement the Interzero Waste Platform, which facilitates the management of all waste generated and environmental documentation.

Once we have received the request, we work with the customer to arrange a convenient date and time for collection, and then provide details of the logistics company and the vehicle’s registration number. We also ensure that the waste is stored in a way that facilitates loading and speeds up the processing of the order.

Airbag servicing as part of maintenance programmes

On behalf of manufacturers, importers and service networks, we organise the collection of faulty airbags replaced during service campaigns. To optimise waste logistics costs, we carefully plan collection dates and select the type and load capacity of the vehicle to suit the number of components collected in a single consignment.

Given the specific nature of maintenance operations, the collaboration usually involves collections carried out on request (e.g. once a container is full or a minimum volume has been reached) or on a regular basis, in accordance with an agreed schedule. A single permanent coordinator at Interzero is responsible for drawing up the schedule, liaising with recyclers and supervising the provision of services.

The scope of waste management services may include, amongst other things:

  • receiving orders in the form of lists of parts to be collected, together with their VIN numbers,
  • contacting waste collection services and arranging waste collection dates,
  • verification of the airbags received (number, VINs provided by the manufacturer or brand owner),
  • overseeing the transfer of modules for deactivation and subsequent recycling,
  • reporting the number and weight of parts received, together with their associated VIN numbers,
  • implementation of the Interzero Waste Platform.

This scope of service facilitates the processing of service work and ensures full control over parts that have been taken out of service. A multi-stage verification process for the modules and the documented deactivation of each airbag help to prevent them from being reintroduced onto the market without authorisation.

Collection of cushions and other workshop waste

We can arrange the collection of faulty airbags either as a standalone service or as part of a wider waste management service for a garage, service centre or authorised service centre (ASO) network. From our clients in the automotive sector We collect all types of workshop and industrial waste, including used oils, oil filters and lubricants, cleaning rags, worn-out parts, batteries and rechargeable batteries (including those from hybrid and electric vehicles), and tyres. This comprehensive waste management service enables a significant reduction in logistics costs, a reduction in the number of subcontractors and a reduction in the time required for tasks related to waste disposal.
