Comprehensive support for e-cigarette sales and collection points
Managing waste from e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products is just one of the many tasks that owners and staff at tobacco retail outlets must carry out. To help them fulfil these obligations, Interzero is developing tailored collection schemes for end-of-life equipment, adapted to the needs of retailers, the size of the distribution network, and the type and volume of e-waste handed over.
Our range includes:
- the design and implementation of collection schemes for used e-cigarettes,
- the organisation of waste collection and transport to treatment facilities,
- the safe transport and handling of equipment containing batteries, in accordance with fire safety regulations
- certified disposal and a high rate of recycling of e-cigarettes,
- advice on the information obligations incumbent on manufacturers, distributors and retailers offering e-cigarettes,
- implementation Interzero Waste Platform for comprehensive waste management,
- reporting on the recycling rates achieved.
We serve both individual collection points and companies that collect used e-cigarettes at multiple points of sale across Poland. We can organise regular collections or on-demand collections, depending on the volume of waste collected and the customer’s needs. This solution helps to reduce the number of used devices stored at points of sale and maintain an efficient collection system for consumers.
Used e-cigarettes and electronic tobacco heaters are electronic waste; they are therefore subject to the provisions of the Act of 11 September 2015 on waste electrical and electronic equipment. Every retailer of this type of equipment is therefore obliged to accept end-of-life equipment and ensure it is sent for safe, lawful disposal. As the number of consumer returns increases, the volume of devices collected is also rising rapidly, and their continued storage is becoming an organisational and logistical challenge. Small kiosks and retail outlets do not usually have the storage space to set aside for used e-cigarettes and tobacco heaters. Such outlets must constantly monitor the volume of e-waste collected and arrange for its collection on a regular basis.
Used e-cigarettes and tobacco heaters as waste hazardous to the environment
Modern nicotine devices contain electronic components, plastics, metals and lithium-ion batteries. This means that they must not be treated as household waste or handed over to unauthorised parties.
As Tim Brauer, an expert on waste collection systems at Interzero, explains:
„E-cigarettes contain built-in lithium-ion batteries which, if disposed of incorrectly, can cause fires in waste collection vehicles and at sorting facilities. The industrial incineration of used e-cigarettes also leads to the loss of valuable raw materials that could otherwise be recycled.”
Disposable e-cigarettes, in particular, require special attention, as they combine a battery, an electronic circuit and a liquid reservoir within a single casing. Their dismantling and processing require appropriate technological processes, and their transport must take into account the presence of lithium batteries. For this reason, the collection and management of this type of waste should be carried out by organisations with experience in organising the collection of e-waste and batteries.
