Collection and disposal of car batteries - Interzero offer

The development of electromobility means that more and more companies have partially or fully electric-powered vehicles in their fleet. A similar trend can be seen among individual users, who are keen to choose economical hybrids and electrics. For owners of service centres, workshops, automotive shops and vehicle dismantling stations, this means an ever-increasing amount of waste from used or damaged car batteries.

Old cells are classified as hazardous waste, which must be stored, transported and then processed in accordance with strict legal requirements. The responsibility for their management lies with companies whose activities generate this type of waste, These operators are not in a position to meet the disposal obligations for car batteries themselves. These businesses are not in a position to fulfil their car battery disposal obligations on their own, so they usually entrust this task to a specialised waste collection company such as Interzero.

Interzero offers an efficient, safe and professional collection of used car batteries from service stations and shops throughout Poland. We have been operating in the waste industry for more than 30 years - we have a wealth of experience in serving entities of all sizes: from small, one-person businesses through to service, diagnostic and dealer networks with many branches throughout the country. Collection and disposal of batteries from vehicle systems and electronics

Vehicles also use smaller batteries to power various electronics. On behalf of our customers we also collect used batteries with less weight and fewer cells, e.g.:

  • starter batteries,
  • button batteries from car keys and remote controls,
  • batteries from vehicle electronic modules,
  • batteries from alarm systems,
  • tyre pressure sensor batteries (TPMS),
  • batteries to power locators and GPS systems,
  • accumulators for the parking heater and parking ventilation (webasto),
  • batteries from tachographs.

Although these types of car batteries are small in size, they also are hazardous waste and must be treated in specialised installations for recycling. Interzero provides collection of all used batteries from automotive electronics, enabling companies to manage them safely, legally.

Disposal of car batteries and BDO - waste battery records and codes

Waste batteries and accumulators arising from business operations are subject to compulsory registration in the BDO system. In practice, this means that any company generating waste in the form of car batteries must obtain entry in the BDO register, receive an individual registration number and record the waste generated on special electronic forms.

To donate used car batteries to Interzero it is necessary to generate a Waste Transfer Note (KPO) in the BDO system containing information on the type and code of waste and its weight. This document confirms the legal transfer of waste for further management and is part of the mandatory environmental documentation of every company.

Used car batteries are most often classified under the codes:

  • 16 06 01* - lead batteries and accumulators,
  • 16 06 02* - Nickel-cadmium batteries and accumulators,
  • 16 06 04 - alkaline batteries (except 16 06 03),
  • 16 06 05 - other batteries and accumulators,
  • 20 01 33* - batteries and accumulators including those mentioned in 16 06 01, 16 06 02 or 16 06 03 and unsorted batteries and accumulators containing these batteries,
  • 20 01 24 - batteries and accumulators other than those mentioned in 20 01 33.

Interzero collects and disposes of all car batteries with the codes listed and in quantities as low as 200 kg. If you do not know the exact code of your waste, please send us photos of the waste (in the case of batteries, photos of the nameplate) and a brief description of the process by which it was produced. On the basis of this information, the customer service agent handling your request will allocate the appropriate code from the waste catalogue to the waste car batteries themselves.
