Toner collection from companies - what does it look like in practice?

Used toner and printer cartridges are electro-waste that may not end up in the normal office bin. Due to the presence of embedded electronic components (e.g. printed circuit boards), they are subject to separate collection and are processed in a separate process.

Waste toner cartridges - waste codes at BDO

The correct classification of used printer consumables is not always obvious - differences in the colloquial and professional understanding of the name „toner” can lead to documentation errors and consequently to the need to make corrections on the Waste Transfer Note (WTP) even before the waste is loaded and collected.

Used toner cartridges and printer cartridges are classified as:

• 16 02 04 - discarded equipment other than those mentioned in 16 02 09 to 16 02 13.

Used, out-of-date or otherwise unusable powder (toner) for laser printers, on the other hand, can be classified under the code:

• 08 03 18 - waste printing toner other than those mentioned in 08 03 17*.

What waste we collect

At Interzero, we offer the collection of all types of printer toner and cartridges: original cartridges, replacements and remanufactured (refilled) cartridges and used powder. From the moment of manufacture, waste with different codes should be stored in separate containers adapted to their properties. While toner cartridges and cartridges can even be stored in cardboard boxes, powder should be stored in sealed containers to prevent spillage.

Used toner and cartridges must not be mixed with toner powder or cartridge refill bottles (so-called refills). Such packaging is classified under a different code (15 01 10* - packaging containing or contaminated with residues of hazardous substances) and is subject to mandatory separate collection. We can collect them with the same transport as used cartridges and toner cartridges, provided that each of these wastes is stored in a separate container.
