What medical waste do we collect? Codes and types

We collect all types of medical waste classified in sub-group 18 01 of the waste catalogue:

• medical waste infectious of the codes: 18 01 02*, 18 01 03*, 18 01 80* and 18 01 82*,
• special medical waste, i.e. non-infectious hazardous waste with the codes: 18 01 06*, 18 01 08* i 18 01 10*,
• other medical waste, i.e. non-infectious, non-hazardous with the codes: 18 01 01, 18 01 04, 18 01 07, 18 01 09 and 18 01 80.

How is medical and veterinary waste disposed of?

As a medical waste collector, our emphasis is on the safe transport of medical waste and its proper, legally compliant management. Infectious and hazardous medical waste poses a threat to people and the environment and must therefore be neutralised and disposed of in specialised facilities.

Veterinary and medical waste collected from our clients are transported in a marked vehicle by an ADR-certified driver directly to the disposal facility. Depending on the code assigned to them, medical waste goes to for thermal conversion processes D10 (i.e. incineration in a waste incinerator) - this applies to all infectious waste

Times and schedule for medical waste collection tailored to your needs

Medical waste with infectious and hazardous properties can only be stored on site for a limited period of time. We understand this perfectly well - as a waste collection company, we adapt the collection frequency to the type of medical waste collected.

• Infectious medical waste with the codes 18 01 02*, 18 01 03*, 18 01 80* and 18 01 82* is collected up to 72 hours after generation. If the facility stores this waste at a low temperature (below 10^oC), there is the possibility of less frequent collections (even as little as once a month), thus optimising waste management baskets.
• Other medical waste is collected at least every 30 days.

The schedule and timetable for the collection of medical waste is always determined on an individual basisto ensure 100%'s compliance with regulations while maintaining the facility's convenience and optimising its waste management expenditure.

How to prepare medical and veterinary waste for collection?

Before the scheduled waste collection date complete the Waste Transfer Note (KPO) in the BDO system and ensure that the waste delivered is properly sorted and placed in designated and correctly labelled bags or containers.

Each bag and container for medical waste must have visible markings containing the waste code, details of the producer (name, REGON number, RPWDL registration book number) and, in the case of infectious waste, also a biohazard warning sign.

• Infectious waste is collected in red bags or plastic containers resistant to moisture and chemicals.
• Non-infectious hazardous waste is collected in yellow bags or containers.
• Other medical waste is collected in bags other than red and yellow.

NOTES: Medical waste with sharp edges and ends (e.g. injection needles, surgical blades) We only collect in rigid, cut and puncture-proof plastic containers!
